The match between the two sides at Jesmond in May had been won by Northumberland. For the winners, there were 2 sixes and 16 fours in Adamson's 116. There were 12 fours in Pickersgill's 65 and 1 six and 8 fours in Hendren's 60. In the match, Thackeray took 10 wickets for 92 runs, including 8 for 40 in the Northumberland first innings, and Morris took 8 wickets for 118 runs, including 7 for 51 in the Northumberland second innings. For the losers, there were 12 fours in Norbury's 80. He also took 8 wickets in the match for 159 runs. In the Durham second innings Adamson and Pickersgill added 154 runs for the third wicket. The match receipts were over £120, a new record for a Durham county match.
