This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project - research is continuing on this scorecard which can be expected to change.
Lincolnshire won this opening match of the season well before lunch on the second day, defeating Suffolk by nine wickets. It was reported that Suffolk had nearly scratched the match because of their difficulty in raising a team. For the winners, Day took 11 wickets in the match for 20 runs, on a pitch described as being greatly in favour of the bowlers. Thompson top-scored with 31 not out. For the losers, Phillips carried his bat through the Suffolk first innings for an undefeated 34. There were 2 sixes in Penfold's 39. Only 35 minutes of play was needed to complete the match on the Tuesday. The Suffolk second innings total of 31 was the second lowest of the season, and the match aggregate of 270 runs was the lowest of the season for a completed match. The four dismissals taken by Allen in the Suffolk first innings were the second highest during the season. Most Lincolnshire press reports state that Gibson was making his debut for Lincolnshire, but he had already done so in 1907. Tacon and Goldsmith, the two Suffolk debutants who failed to score in either innings, were not to play again for the County.
