Monmouthshire won this return match by an innings and 127 runs at 3.05 pm on the second day, after following on 314 runs behind. The match between the two sides at Newport in June had been won by Glamorgan. Silverlock carried his bat throughout the Monmouthshire innings, one of only three instances during the season. His 187 not out included 22 fours and 8 threes and was scored in 4½ hours. N C Phillips's 90 contained 12 fours. In the visitors' innings, these two batsmen put on 153 for the fourth wicket in 90 minutes. For Glamorgan, Gibson and Nash added 57 for the eighth wicket in the second innings. Nash took 7 wickets for 152 runs in the Monmouthshire innings. The 152 runs conceded by Nash was the third highest total in an innings during the season.
