The Worcestershire first eleven had participated for four seasons in the competition between its commencement in 1895 and 1898 when they were promoted to the First-Class County Championship for 1899. Worcestershire 2nd XI needed 212 runs to win in their second innings. For the winners, there were 9 fours in Strange's 72. For the losers, Crowe top-scored with 48.
