Berkshire won by 41 runs on the second day. The match was the inaugural match for Worcestershire 2nd XI in the Championship. The Worcestershire first eleven had participated for four seasons in the competition between its commencement in 1895 and 1898 when they were promoted to the First-Class County Championship for 1899. Worcestershire 2nd XI needed 212 runs to win in their second innings. For the winners, there were 9 fours in Strange's 72. For the losers, Crowe top-scored with 48.
