Drawn return match with Northumberland winning on first innings. The match between the two sides at Jesmond in June had been won by Yorkshire 2nd XI. For the visitors, there were 23 fours, 3 threes and 10 twos in Gillespie's 171, scored in
3¾ hours, and 19 fours, 1 three and 11 twos in debutant Wood's 143, an innings of 160 minutes. Gillespie's 171 was the second highest score of the season. In the Northumberland innings, Gillespie and Wood added 153 runs for the sixth wicket and Wood and Seymour 90 for the seventh wicket. For Yorkshire 2nd XI, W H Wilkinson's 157 contained 20 fours,5 threes and 9 twos. His second innings 53 not out included 8 fours. In the Yorkshire first innings, Wilkinson and Dolphin put on 65 for the last wicket. The 210 runs scored by Wilkinson in the match was the highest aggregate during the season. On the first day when fielding Elsey was struck in the groin by a ball and could not take part in the match on the Friday. [The Yorkshire scorebook gives bowling details which are not supported by the other sources listed or the Northumberland averages in Wisden. For the record these differences are in the Yorkshire first innings Elsey overs 38, Chambers overs 36 and maidens 5, and in the Yorkshire second innings Marshall overs 21.]
