Northamptonshire won by an innings half an hour after lunch on the second day. For the winners, there were 3 fours, 5 threes and 13 twos in Kingston's 103 scored in 2½ hours, and 1 four in Horton's 62. Thompson took 14 wickets in the match for 94 runs, including 8 for 62 in the Northumberland first innings. Thompson's match bowling performance was statistically the second best of the season. In the Northamptonshire innings, Kingston and Horton put on 114 runs for the fifth wicket. When on 75, Kingston had been caught off a no-ball. In the Northumberland first innings, Chambers and Elsey added 63 for the ninth wicket, which was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season.
