Bad light stopped play early shortly before 6.20 pm. The game at Northampton in June had been won by Northamptonshire. For the visitors, Horton scored 56 with 4 fours and W H Kingston 52 with 5 fours. For the home team Page batted 2¼ hours to score 56 not out with 5 fours. Elsey, who took 8 wickets for 58 runs in the Northamptonshire first innings, was badly injured in the Northumberland first innings when, having been winded by a ball from East, a ball from G J Thompson hit him in the eye.
