Northamptonshire won by an innings just before lunch on the second day. For the winners, Thompson took 12 wickets in the match for 66 runs. There were 7 fours in Colson's 85 and 9 fours in debutant Knight's 79. They put on 139 for the home team's seventh wicket, which was the largest partnership for that wicket during the season. For Hertfordshire, Fastnedge's 73 not out included 8 fours. In the Hertfordshire second innings, Field and Fastnedge put on 80 runs for the seventh wicket and Fastnedge and Coleman 51 runs for the eighth wicket. Coleman was taken ill after lunch on the first day and Horton fielded as substitute for the visitors while 190 runs were added.
