Northamptonshire won by 5 wickets at 5.45 pm on the second day, having needed in their second innings 181 runs to win in three hours and a quarter. For the winners, Horton scored 58 and 81 not out. The latter score was the highest by a batsman in the fourth innings of a match during the season. For Berkshire, there were 13 fours and 11 fours respectively in E R Morres's two innings of 83 and 68. H F M Morres scored 62. In the Berkshire second innings, the brothers Morres put on 111 runs for the fourth wicket. Published newspaper accounts of this match have several variations in the fall of wickets, especially for the Berkshire first innings, and the version adopted is largely based on the Northampton Daily Chronicle.
