This return match was drawn after Hertfordshire followed on 368 runs behind. The game between the two sides at Reading earlier in the month had been won by Berkshire. Rain on the second day prevented play before lunch. When Hertfordshire had lost 5 wickets in their second innings, rain again stopped play for half an hour, thus helping the home team's effort to save the game. For the visitors, there was 1 five, 23 fours, 7 threes, and 8 twos in Croome's 158, which was scored in just 115 minutes and was the highest individual innings of the season. L P Collins's 121 lasted 175 minutes and contained 1 five, 9 fours, 7 threes and 16 twos. His brother, L G A Collins scored 72, which included 6 fours. In the Berkshire innings, they put on 122 runs for the third wicket, Croome and Barrett 69 for the seventh wicket, and Croome and Barker 89 for the ninth wicket. Berkshire's total of 493-9 wickets declared was the highest score of the season, and a new record for the competition, exceeding the 459 scored by Buckinghamshire against Hertfordshire at Watford in July. The 5 catches held by Chapman equalled the Championship record. His 6 dismissals in the match were the most for the season. Fastnedge damaged his fingers keeping wicket on the first day and did not bat in the Hertfordshire first innings.
