Staffordshire won this return match by six wickets at 3.40 pm on the second day. The meeting between the two teams at Northampton earlier in the month had been drawn. Rain delayed the start of play on the second day until 12.15 pm. For the winners, Turner took 11 wickets in the match for 75 runs. W Brown top-scored in the match with 35 not out. T A Brown was run out twice when opening the batting. This was Staffordshire's final Championship match of the season, as the team only played home and away matches against Northamptonshire, and did not qualify for the final table.
