This match resulted in a narrow win for Hertfordshire by one wicket on the second day, amid reported scenes of considerable excitement. Set 129 runs to win, the home side lost 8 wickets for 107 runs, and when the ninth wicket fell 3 runs were still needed for victory. Hoyer Millar hit his first ball from Nash for 2 runs. Fastnedge, the debutant, played out a maiden over from Allcock, and then Hoyer Millar, with a boundary off Nash's second ball, hit the winning run. For the victors, White took 11 wickets in the match for 136 runs. In the Hertfordshire first innings, Butcher and Nicholls put on 55 runs for the seventh wicket.
Saunders top-scored for Buckinghamshire with 50. In the Buckinghamshire first innings Bird and Allcock put on 57 runs for the seventh wicket.
