The match had been scheduled to be played at Karori Park but after heavy overnight rain made the ground unplayable the match was transferred to the Basin Reserve with the match starting at 11.16am after the groundsman Wes Armstrong did an amazing job to prepare a pitch at such short notice
Rain forced the players from the field at 2.50pm on the first day and no further play was possible that day
RW Ormiston and JV Coney added 64 for the fifth wicket in the Wellington City innings
RW Smith was hit on the left forearm by a full toss from TG Vogel which forced him to retire hurt with a badly bruised forearm
