Lincolnshire won this close return match by 4 runs at 4.30 pm on the second day. Loud and lengthy applause was reported to have greeted the fall of Groves's wicket, which saw the home side victors by a very narrow margin. Lincolnshire had also won when the teams met at Lancaster earlier in the month. For the winners, Geeson took 11 wickets in the match for 102 runs including 7 for 56 in the Lancashire 2nd XI second innings. For the losers Rowlands took 14 wickets in the match for 94 runs, including 8 for 52 in the Lincolnshire first innings. No batsman scored more than Sladen's 43, which contained 6 fours.
