For the first time in the history of Intercollegiate Cricket (54 matches since 1878), Adelaide Oval was unavailable for the annual match (Australia were playing West Indies there in a test match starting the same day). It was therefore decided to play the game on either of the school grounds. The winner of the toss had choice of ground.
