Majid Khan was struck by a bouncer from Roberts. He suffered a depressed fracture of the right cheek bone and was operated on at the Dandenong Hospital.
J Garner hit on his broken middle finger by the first ball he faced, bowled by Rice. He was unable to continue and the match ended.
With the total on 9 the West Indies lost three wickets in six balls with the dismissals of Greenidge, Richards and Allen.
CL King and AME Roberts rescued West Indies somewhat from a real disaster in adding 28 runs for the eighth wicket in 41 minutes.
The wicket was one of reliable bounce but of prodigous seam.
