Heavy overnight rain followed by persistently steady rain throughout the morning and early afternoon, forced the early abandonment of the third days play (14.50pm). Not for the first time this season, Lancashire were denied the opportunity to press home their huge advantage from the first two days play. The outfield was covered in a number of large puddles of water despite the new drainage system. Even if the rain had ceased falling just after lunchtime the outfield was completely unfit for play
