Player: | R Slater |
Lancashire 1865

His only match for Lancashire was also his only first-class match. He travelled to London with the Lancashire team to play the Club's second first-class match against Middlesex at Islington. He batted at number ten in the first innings and last in the second.
This is probably the R.Slater who played for Longsight in the 1860s. In 1864 he played in two matches scoring 19, 18 and 1 in his three innings. In 1865 he played in two matches, scoring 25 runs in his three innings with a top score of 14. There was also a C.H.Slater playing for Longsight at this time, a medium pace round-arm bowler, who may have been a brother.
On the 13th-15th July 1865 he played for Twenty-two of Longsight against the All England Eleven, scoring 11 and 0, and perhaps taking the wicket of Roger Iddison. C.Slater was also playing and no initial is given for the bowler.
On 23rd-25th August 1866 he played for Twenty-two of Bolton against the All England Eleven, scoring 1 and 2. In this match the 19 year old A.N.Hornby was playing for Bolton.
If this is so he must have accompanied E.J.Bousfield and L.H.Moorsom, who also played in this match and were members of the Longsight Club, and Enoch Storer who was professional there.
