Educated at Bramham College, Tadcaster.

 

His club cricket was played for Broughton, Manchester 1864 to 1878 and Manchester Clifford in 1884.

 

On 5th and 6th June 1874 he played his only first-class match, for Lancashire against Derbyshire at Old Trafford.

 

On 18th and 19th August 1879 he played for the Gentlemen of Lancashire against Uppingham Rovers at Old Trafford, going in last and scoring 12 and took one wicket for 33 runs.
