Lancashire 1875-81
Born 31.8.1847 Rochdale.
Died 6.8.1918 Glenlyon, Parkstone, Dorset.

The son of T.Chadwick of London.
He was educated at Bruce Castle School, Tottenham, London and at Marlborough. He went into business in Rochdale as a manufacturer.
He was a cousin of the Leach brothers.
He played for the Rochdale Club against the Australian Aborigines on 2nd to 4th July 1868, batting at first wicket down and scoring 10 and 6. In 1870 he joined those members of the Rochdale club who left to form a new club at Castleton.
5ft eight inches tall and almost eleven stone, he was a middle-order right-hand batsman and a good long-stop.
At the end of May 1875 he accompanied the Lancashire team to London and played against the M.C.C. and Ground at Lord's, scoring 19 and 9. He played for the county intermitently in each of the next six seasons without really establishing himself in the side. Perhaps if he had been able to devote more time to the game he might have succeeded, but he had a living to earn. When Lancashire played Kent on the Castleton Ground in May 1876 he scored 33 and 10, being not out on each occasion. Together with John Leach and J Schofield he underwrote the profit to Lancashire of this match. Since the match was over in two days and the crowd was small it probably cost the sponsors dearly - but they all played and paid!
On 21st July 1877, playing for Castleton against Rusholme he scored 213 not out.
At the time of the 1901 Census he was living at 28 King Street, Rochdale, aged 53, a flannel manufacturer, with his wife Emily, aged 49, and daughter Mabel aged 25. There is one domestic servant.
