WILSON, Claude William.
Amateur.
Born at Banbury, Oxfordshire, 9th September 1858.
Died at Reigate, Surrey, 7th July 1881.
Educated at Brighton College, he went up to Exeter College, Oxford, where he played in one match for the University against the Gentlemen of England in 1881 and also in one match for Surrey. He won his blue for soccer and played for England against Wales in 1879 and against Scotland in 1881. In July 1881 he caught sunstroke during a cricket match and subsequently died.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was visiting Grove Road, Sutton, Surrey, an undergraduate of an Oxford College, unmarried, aged 22. This is the home of Ernest J. Humphrey, aged 28, a wharfinger, and his wife Grace, aged 24. They have two sons Ronan aged 4 and Selwyn aged 3, both born at Brighton. There are three domestic servants.
