Phil North was a left-arm spinner who played in 22 matches for Glamorgan between 1985 and 1989. The Newport-born bowler played for Welsh Schools and Glamorgan Colts teams before making his first-class debut in 1985 against Yorkshire at Swansea.

For the next few years, he met with success in 2nd XI matches, and when given a run in first team matches, he proved himself to be a steady bowler and an obdurate lower order batsman. His finest moment came in 1987 when he returned career-best figures of 4/43 against Worcestershire at Neath, and twice dismissed Graeme Hick and Ian Botham in the match as Glamorgan won by seven wickets.
He subsequently played Minor County cricket for Wales and in 1997 he nearly made a surprise return to the first-class game when he was drafted into Glamorgan`s squad for their match at Colwyn Bay. However, after travelling up to North Wales North overslept the next morning and missed out on an opportunity to re-appear in Championship cricket.
