George Harris was the younger brother of Charlie Harris, the famous Nottinghamshire batsman. George spent a short time on the Trent Bridge groundstaff, during which time he mixed cricket with playing League football for Mansfield Town, for whom he played in goal. He made five League appearances for Mansfield in the 1925-26 season when the team came second in the Midland Counties League.

He had previously played football for Netherfield Rovers and in the early 1930`s Harris joined Swansea Town, and after moving to South Wales, he joined the Briton Ferry Town club. Some good scores in League matches led to his inclusion in the Glamorgan side to play Surrey at Swansea in 1932. However, Harris failed to score in his only innings, and he was not called up again.
After retiring from professional football, Harris joined the South Wales Constabulary
