MacLACHLAN, Norman.
Amateur.
Born at Darlington, County Durham, 12th October 1858.
Died at Torquay, Devon, 18th February 1928.
He was educated at Loretto School, Edinburgh, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1875-78, being captain in the last two years. He went up to Keble College, Oxford, where he was a member of the University cricket eleven 1879-82, being captain in 1882. During these years he played in twenty first-class matches. His county cricket was played for Cheshire in 1884. He became an assistant master at Aysgarth School 1882-83, at Lambrook School, Bracknell 1883-84 and at Loretto School 1884-92. He was joint headmaster of Routenbourne Preparatory School, Largs, Ayrshire 1892-1901. In July of that year he became headmaster.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was lodging at Primrose House, St Columb, Coenwall, with Mrs. Mary H. Hockin, a 64 year old widow and her son Alfred J.B. and her daughter Mary E. aged 18. Norman M. McLachlan (sic), George J. Tatham, Windham B. Purse, William F. Danby, and Harry C. Tillard are all lodgers and all undergraduates of Keble College, Oxford, and all aged 22.
