• Martin Saggers was making his Test debut for England. He became 621st player to represent England in Test cricket.
• Marcus Trescothick completed his 3000 runs when his score reached 53 on the opening day. He was playing his 40th Test and 74th innings. Trescothick became 31st Englishman and 127th batsman overall to do so.
• The winning margin of 329 runs was the third highest for England in their 813th Test. The accompanying table has the details :

• The defeat was also the biggest for Bangladesh in runs margin. They had lost to Sri Lanka by 288 runs at Colombo SSC in 2002-03.
• It was the first time since 1978-79 that England, who had beaten Australia in the first Ashes Test at Sydney earlier this year, have won three consecutive Tests overseas.
• Bangladesh extended their consecutive losing record to 20 matches. They have now not won a single Test in their 26 Tests. They are now inching towards the world record of playing most matches without a win. New Zealand had played 44 Tests from 1935-36 to 1955-56 without winning once.
