Andrew Davies was one of the country`s most effective bowlers with the white ball in one-day games in the late 1990s and early 2000s - an accolade which the former pupil at Christ College Brecon achieved after overcoming a couple of serious injuries early in his career.

 

Davies made his Glamorgan debut in their final championship match of the 1995 season at Worcester, and then during the 1996/97 season in New Zealand, he suffered a severe shoulder injury, and did not return to fitness until late in the second half of the 1997 season.

 

He made further headway during 1998, but after regaining a place in the 1st XI in 1999, he was injured again. Another injury in 2000 forced Davies to spend much of the season on the sidelines, but he returned to first-team action in 2001, and showed great promise with the new ball as Glamorgan won Division Two of the Norwich Union League.

 

Davies subsequently consolidated on this fine progress by being the regular opening bowler in one-day games, and his accurate swing bowling was a feature of Glamorgan`s success in winning the Division One League titles in 2002 and 2004.

 

In 2005 he became the fastest Glamorgan bowler to take 100 wickets in one-day League cricket, reaching the landmark in only his 66th match, and fully justified his reputation as one of the best white ball bowlers on the county circuit.

 

In 2007 he received his county cap in 2007, and delivered against Somerset at Cardiff the most economical spell by a Glamorgan bowler in Twenty20 cricket, conceding just 12 runs in his 4 overs. Later in the season, he recorded his maiden first-class fifty againt the same opponents, scoring an assertive 54 at Taunton.

 

Davies retired at the end of the 2007 season to take up a career in the financial sector.
