BLACKMAN, William.
Amateur.
Born at Arundel, Sussex, 27th November 1862.
Died at Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 2nd June 1885.
Educated at Ardingly School, Haywards Heath, Sussex.
He played 34 times for Sussex between 1881 and 1884. He went to Australia for the benefit of his health, but within a few months died of consumption.
The 1881 Census finds him resident at St.Saviors Middle Class School, Ardingly, with the headmaster the Rev.Frederick Mertens, his wife and six children. There are five assistant schoolmasters in Holy Orders, a secretary clerk, and twelve further assistant schoolmasters, including Blackman and W.A.Bettesworth.
