• This was the 2033rd ODI in cricket history.
• Heath Streak was captaining Zimbabwe for the 50th time in his career. He became third Zimbabwean after Alistair Campbell (86) and Andy Flower (52) and 28th player overall to captain his side in 50 matches.
• Shaun Pollock was making his 100th consecutive appearance for South Africa since 28-03-2000. He became second South African after Hansie Cronje (162) and ninth player overall to complete century of consecutive matches. Among the current players, Pollock has the best chance to break India’s Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most consecutive matches.
• The opening partnership of 154 runs between Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs is South Africa’s best for this wicket against Zimbabwe. The pair just managed to obliterate the previous record stand of 153 between Gibbs and Gary Kirsten at Bulawayo QC on 23-09-2001.
• Gibbs has now aggregated 484 runs in 10 games against Zimbabwe which makes him the leading run-scorer for South Africa against Zimbabwe. He went ahead of fellow teammate Jacques Kallis’ run-aggregate of 413 from 10 games.
• Herschelle Gibbs was winning his 13th Man of the Match award.
