Lancashire 1867
Born 26.8.1848 Glossop, Derbyshire.

 

A right-handed batsman and a right-hand medium pace round-arm bowler, who usually fielded at slip. He was 5 foot eight inches tall and weighed just over eleven stone.

 

He was engaged by the Cheetham Hill Club, Manchester, in 1867 and at the end of May went to London with the Lancashire team. He played against Surrey at The Oval going in last and scoring 12, and taking no wickets for 28 runs in his fifteen four ball overs. Moving on to the Lord's ground to play against the MCC he opened the Lancashire innings, scoring 2 and 4, and took his only first-class wicket, Tom Hearne, in his six overs. He did not play for Lancashire again, and that was the full extent of his time in first-class cricket.

 

He was engaged with the St.Helens Club 1868-71, at Saddleworth 1872, and at the Pendleton Club, Manchester in 1873. In 1874 he was engaged at the Stayley Mill Club, and was living at Stayley in 1876, being by trade a flannel weaver.
