KEMP, Manley Colchester.

Born at Forest Hill, Sydenham, London, 7th September 1861.
Died at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, 30th June 1951.
He was the second son of Charles Fitch Kemp, J.P., D.L., of Hildenborough, Kent. He was educated at Harrow, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1879-80, being captain in 1880 and a member of the football team 1879. He went up to Hertford College, Oxford, and played in the University eleven 1881-84, being captain in 1883-84. He also won a football blue in 1883-84. His brothers A.F. played for Kent in 1884 and C.W.M. played for Oxford and Kent in 1878. He gained his B.A. in 1884 and was awarded his M.A. in 1895. He played 134 first-class matches between 1879 and 1895, 88 of them for Kent. He was a wicket-keeper.
He was an assistant master at Winchester College 1885-88 and at Harrow 1888-1921. He was a House Master 1901-21.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living with his father, Charles F. Kemp, aged 56, born Southminster, Essex, a member of the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and his mother Sarah T. aged 49. The six unmarried children present are Charles M. aged 24, an accountant, Manley C. aged 19, Constance F. aged 22, Maud C. aged 19, Helen G. aged 15, and Dorothy F. aged 7. Also present is an unmarried sister-in-law Isabella B. Edwards, aged 46. There are nine domestic servants.
