Glamorganshire CCC

In March 1869 a meeting of cricket club officials at The Castle Hotel in Neath resulted in the creation of Glamorganshire C.C.C. For the next few years, this county side played a series of matches against other Welsh counties and teams from neighbouring parts of England. However, the club did not last long and by the late 1870s it had gone out of existence.Nevertheless, the instigators behind it`s formation in the first place, most notably J.T.D.Llewelyn (shown below) believed that South Wales hsould have its own county cricket team, and in July 1888 Llewelyn convened a meeting in Cardiff at which Glamorgan C.C.C. came into being. Without his earlier involvement, and disappointments, with the Glamorganshire team, the present county club might not have been formed.
