Drawn high scoring return match with Northumberland winning on first innings. The match between the two sides at Jesmond in May had also been drawn. For Durham, there were 1 five, 15 fours and 1 three in Elliot's 121, an innings of 1 hour and 50 minutes. Turnbull's 75 included 18 fours, Elliot's 71 8 fours and Coulson scored 55. In the Durham second innings, Turnbull and Elliot added 151 runs for the second wicket. For the visitors, Stanger-Leathes's 90 contained 15 fours, Gilman's 59 7 fours and Gillespie scored 64. In the Northumberland first innings, Stanger-Leathes and Gilman put on 127 runs for the first wicket, and Gillespie and Ullathorne 70 for the seventh wicket. The match was played in fine weather on both days and the aggregate of 1,083 runs was the most in a match during the season.
