This match was drawn, with Dorset winning on first innings, after only sixteen wickets fell over the two full days of play. For the home side, there were 1 five and 12 fours in Orchard's 122, scored in three hours. Shelley's 88 included 1 six and 6 fours, Heslop scored 69 and Bazalgette 65. In the Devon innings, Shelley and Orchard put on 152 runs for the first wicket. For the visitors, there were 19 fours in Budge's 192 not out, an innings of 6 hours. He was reported as batting with 'considerable difficulty' after he had reached 150 due to the strain of batting for so long. He gave no chances during his innings. Cummins scored 85 and Knight 69. In the Dorset innings, Budge and Knight added 103 runs for the third wicket, Budge and Cummins added 175 for the sixth wicket, and Budge and Goodden put on 103 runs in an unbroken partnership for the seventh wicket.
