This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project - research is continuing on this scorecard which can be expected to change.
This match was drawn with Yorkshire 2nd XI winning on first innings. The visitors required 121 runs to win in two hours. Eleven runs were needed off the final over bowled by Smoker, but amid reported scenes of great excitement only 5 runs were scored. Rain delayed the start on the first day until half an hour before lunch, and on the second day stopped play soon after the start of the Cheshire second innings and it only resumed after lunch. For the visitors, Broadbent took 12 wickets in the match for 125 runs. For Cheshire, there were 11 fours in Hunter's 72. Roberts took 7 wickets for 55 runs in the Yorkshire Second XI first innings. Hardisty hurt his thigh fielding during the Cheshire second innings, and it was decided that he would only bat in a necessity.
