He won his first professional cricket contract at the aged of 17 and since then he has only made huge steps towards international stardom. He made his first-team debut the same year before playing for England at the Under-19 World Cup in 2003. his fame has been because he is a top-order batsman who can also chip in with some handy medium-pace bowling. Due to injuries prevalent in the England squad as well as the reserves, he was selected for the England A squad for the tour to West Indies in 2006 and then made it to the Champions trophy team after that. Later that season he made his ODI debut in the CB series in 2007 against Australia. He was also part of the 2007 world cup campaign and with some impressive performances there, remained on the radar of the selectors. A good ODI series against Sri Lanka away from home meant that he was selected for the test series that followed, but he could only manage to score 42 runs in three tests and thus was dropped after that. Since then he has only been part of the English team’s one-day plans.
