Biography: | MP for Canterbury 1874-1879. Resigned as MP on 1 May 1879 and under resignation rules was appointed to a paid office of the crown as Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Chiltern Hundreds, which automatically disqualified him from holding a seat in the House of Commons. Played under the name Chiltern Hundreds for Lords and Commons against Harrow School. |
