David Hussey has been forced to pile up mountains of runs in Australia before gaining the confidence of the national selectors. Classified as a Twenty20 specialist, Hussey was one of the big surprises in the Indian Premier League auction when Kolkata paid $625,000 to secure him - far more than the sums offered for his brother and Ricky Ponting. An aggressive batsman with a strong bottom-hand technique, Hussey when on rampage can be virtually unstoppable as the Australian domestic and the English county bowlers found out. He is now a regular in the Australian ODI and T20 squad and is now gunning for a place in the Australian Test squad especially with the Ashes around the corner. In addition to a powerful bat he wields he is of additional value to the squad with flat and quick offspinners he bowls from wide of the crease and an excellent fielder who can be positioned anywhere on the offside ranging from point to covers.
