A first class debut at the age of 16 first highlighted Suresh Rainas special talent and for the next couple of years runs flowed from the gifted left-hands bat at the junior level. A natural stroke player Raina made his way into the Indian Under-19 squad. The 2005-06 season was very special for him. First he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at Dumbulla. By the end of the season he had played a stellar role in Uttar Pradesh winning the Ranji Trophy for the first time with a tally of 620 runs from six matches. He had also won his spurs at the international with successive scores of 81 not out and 61 against England India winning both the matches. The first was a truly special effort for India were 92 for five in pursuit of a target of 227 and he was there at the finish with India scoring a four-wicket victory with one over to spare. His electrifying fielding is an added asset and at just 20 it can be safely predicted that Rainas best is still to come.
