Zubair Khans only First-class appearance came for Derbyshire against Cambridge University in 2000. As the match petered out to a meaningless draw, Khan took his first and last top flight wicket as he persuaded Cambridge keeper Malcolm Birks nicked one behind. Khan and his brother Rawait (who enjoyed a 5 season career with Derbyshire) were originally sponsored by a group of Asian businessmen who felt the brothers had what it took to make it in the professional game, although Zubairs second XI wickets rarely came in more than 1 at a time, and his pace was rarely faster than medium.
