Brief profile of Waqar Younis
by Ateeq Abdul Rauf

Player:Waqar Younis

DateLine: 21st February 2005

Waqar Younis, the king of swing, dominated opposition batsmen during the 1990s. His bustling run-up, frightening speed of delivery and inswinging yorkers earned him the nickname of 'Burewala Express' (named after his hometown). Such was the destruction of his bowling that batsmen used to wear toe protectors when facing him to avoid breaking their toes.

Waqar had real speed which earned him the best strike rate of any bowler over 200 wickets. Waqar formed a lethal partnership with Wasim Akram. He also captained Pakistan during the 2003 World Cup after which he retired from international cricket.
