Ramsbottom have signed former Todmorden and Lancashire batsman Francois du Plessis as their professional on a short term contract.


Francois du Plessis spent one season at Todmorden as professional in 2007. Due to the weather and domestic commitments du Plessis played just 17 matches for the club, hitting 363 runs at 36.3 with a top score of 89 not out. With the ball du Plessis took 32 wickets at 15.4 with a best of 5-42. He was called up for the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia where he played in ten matches for his country in the middle of the 2007 season. In 2008 and 2009, du Plessis played for Lancashire.


The South African, who replaces Usman Khawaja who will now arrive in July, will not arrive in time for this weekends opening games.
