A clinical bowling performance by the Mumbai Indians enabled them to register an easy 16 run win over the Bangalore Royal Challengers. The win breaks Mumbai's hatrick of losses and renews their hopes of making it to the final four thus opening up the league.

Chasing 158 to win, the Bangalore outfit never had the momentum going on for them. Neither was the run-rate good, nor did they managed to put together a few partnerships. They kept losing wickets and that sounded their downfall yet again in the tournament. The openers Jacques Kallis (12) and Virat Kohli (20) started well, adding 23 runs in just over three overs but then Kallis's wicket started the slide. Robin Uthappa(4) and Virat Kohli fell soon afterwords trying for a few flashy shots. Rahul Dravid (10) and Ross Taylor (16) had started to look good but just then an attempt for a suicidal run brought Dravid's downfall. Post that wickets kept falling and Bangalore never looked like they are in for the chase. The required run-rate kept on increasing and the one good over that everyone was looking for eluded them, though Mark Boucher (48) stayed till the end.

Dangerman Roelef Van Der Merwe (3) also could not do much as he was foxed by master offie Harbhajan Singh and was stumped early in his innings. Mark Boucher tried really hard but the professional bowling display that the Mumbai bowlers displayed kept him very much at bay.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, the Mumbai Indians aided by solid knocks from Ajinkya Rahane (62) and Jean Paul Duminy (59) managed to get to a good total of 157 having lost just two wickets in their 20 overs. The duo added a record 104 runs for the third wicket after the Bangalore bowlers sent back both the openers.

The Mumbai side resorted back to their best opening pair in Jayasuriya and Tendulkar but it hardly made a difference. sachin Tendulkar once again failed to score big and was caught behind off Vinay Kumar in the very second over. He failed to open his account. Jayasuriya too looked very cautious and his astounding shots for which he is so known for, were clearly absent. His 29 came off 27 deliveries and was aided by four hits to the fence.

But their fall brought the man in form, Jean Paul Duminy on the wicket who in the process hit his fourth half-century of the IPL. He has been one Mumbai batsman who has looked in top form this season. His knock came off 41 deliveries and was studded with two boundaries and three sixes. Ajinkya Rahane played the sheet-anchor's role with perfection. He played 49 deliveries for his 62 and hit four boundaries and a six.

At the time when Jayasuriya fell, the Mumbai outfit looked in a spot of bother because they had lost two of their best batsmen and their run-rate was also not special. But then Rahane and Duminy hit brisk half centuries and made sure Bangalore have a task at their hands when they come out to bat.
