Player: | SR Tendulkar |
Sachin Tendulkar by getting dismissed for just two runs in the first innings of the Lahore Test ended his world record streak of most runs [497] by a batsman between two dismissals. Sachin accumulated 497 runs [off 879 balls in 1224 minutes] in just four innings, comprising a double century, a century, a half-century and a single digit score. Sachin was last dismissed in second innings of the third Test against Australia at Melbourne for 44 in December 2003. In the following New Years Test at Sydney, he smashed 301 runs without being dismissed, scoring of 241* and 60* two innings respectively. Then on March 29, during the second day of the Multan Test against Pakistan, Tendulkar surpassed Sir Garry Sobers previous world record 490 runs [365* and 125 in two innings against Pakistan in 1957-58] when he reached 190. By the time Dravid declared the Indian innings, Tendulkar had taken his tally to 495, as he remained unbeaten on 194. Sachin broke Sobers record which lasted for 46 years and 14 days, but somehow missed the chance to become the first man in Test cricket annals to cross 500-run mark without being dismissed. For readers interest the accompanying table has the complete details.
