Born 27.2.1843 Broughton, Salford.
Died 27.4.1869 St.Leonards, Sussex.

Educated at Rossall and at Oxford University, he was not in the Eleven at either place.

He played regularly for the Broughton Club, Manchester and in 1864 played his first match for The Gentlemen of Lancashire, for whom he turned out nine times between 1864 and 1867.
In his nine matches he scored 267 runs in ten completed innings, average 26.70; and took 9 wickets and 7 catches. His top scores were 52 against the Gentlemen of Yorkshire in 1864, at the Broughton Club, Manchester, and 52 not out against the Gentlemen of Cheshire in 1866, at Chelford.
His first match for Lancashire was at Old Trafford on 27th to 29th June 1866, when he scored 15 and 0. In August, at Liverpool, he scored 4 and 4 against Surrey. He played at Old Trafford the following year against Surrey scoring 14 and 4, and that was the end of his Lancashire career. Also in 1867 he played two more first-class matches, for the Gentlemen of the North against the Gentlemen of the South at the Middlesex County Ground, Islington, London, and for the North against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
