SOWDEN, Abraham (or Abram).
Professional.
Born at Great Horton, Bradford, Yorkshire, 1st December 1853.
Died at Heaton, Bradford, Yorkshire, 5th July 1921.
A successful batsman for the Bingley club 1875-93 and for Bradford 1893-1901, he was tried eight times for Yorkshire 1878-87 without much success. He also played for T.EmmettÂ’s XI in 1881 and an England XI in 1902, against the Australians, when he was aged 48. He was a worsted manufacturer.
In the 1881 Census he is living at 35 Cottingley Road, Heaton, Bradford, aged 27, a worsted manufacturer, with his wife Martha, aged 29, born Wolsden, Yorkshire. They have three sons and one daughter, Charley aged 6, Norris aged 5, Edward aged 4, and Sarah A. aged 3.
