SHOWERS, Charles James.
Amateur.
Born at Fort William, Calcutta, India, 12th January 1848.
Educated at Cheltenham and Wellington Schools he played in three first-class matches between 1877 and 1881. Thereafter he went out to Assam as a tea planter.
There is no sign of him in the 1881 Census. However, at 37 Up George Street, Marylebone, London, there is Charles L. Showers (his father?), aged 63, born India, a Major General in the Bengal Staff Corps, and his wife Frederica, aged 55, born in India. Their son Herbert L. is aged 19 born in London and their nephew Harry Dawson, aged 13 born in India, are staying with them and there are two domestic servants.
