Brief profile of Greg Armstrong
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:GD Armstrong

In the mid-1970`s Glamorgan were on the lookout for an overseas pace bowler. The county`s committee reasoned that, like most of the other Championship sides, they needed an overseas fast bowler to spearhead their attack.

Their eventual choice was Greg Armstrong, the young Barbadian bowler, who subsequently made his Glamorgan debut against the Pakistani tourists at Swansea in 1974. But the following summer the raw youngster had difficulty adapting in Championship matches to the slow, low Welsh wickets. Then to make matters worse, Armstrong was also plagued by run-up and no ball problems, and during his two full seasons with Glamorgan, he failed to reproduce his West Indian form.

In 1982/83 Armstrong acted as the Assistant Manager of the so-called `rebel` West Indian team to South Africa.
