Brief profile of Wilf Jones
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:WE Jones

Wilf Jones was a talented left-arm batsman and spin bowler who was on Glamorgan`s staff between 1929 and 1933.

Jones made his debut against the 1929 Springboks at Pontypridd, and was initially Frank Ryan`s understudy. In 1931 Jones took a career-best 6/93 against the New Zealanders at the Arms Park, and he subsequently got an extended run in the Glamorgan side when Ryan was released at the end of 1931.

However, he subsequently lost form, and Glamorgan regrettably had to release the Pontardawe-born professional as an economy measure at the end of the 1933 season. Had Glamorgan been able to afford Jones` services, he might have developed into a useful spin partner for Johnnie Clay.
