by Don Ambrose

Player:H Lockwood

LOCKWOOD, Henry.
Professional.
Born at Lascelles Hall, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, 20th October 1855.
Died at Lepton, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, 18th February, 1932.
He was a son of Charles Lockwood, of Lascelles Hall, a fancy woollen weaver. A nephew of John Thewlis (Yorkshire 1862-75) he and his brother Ephriam (Yorkshire 1868-84) were related to the Eastwood, Bates and Thewlis families, who also lived at Lascelles Hall. Not quite so good as his brother Ephriam he was nevertheless a useful club professional who had 16 first-class matches for Yorkshire between 1877 and 1882. In 1879 he was engaged at Hollen Hall, Oldham, and at Rochdale 1884-86. In 1892 he was at Burnley St Andrews, 1893 and 1894 with Cockermouth, Cumberland and in 1894 and 1895 with the Little Lever Club, Bolton.
The 1881 Census finds him unmarried, aged 26, a weaver and professional cricketer, living with his widower father, Samuel, aged 57, a fancy weaver (woollen), together with his brother George aged 28, a fancy weaver.
