GRACE, Edward Mills.
Amateur.
Born at Downend, Bristol, 28th November 1841.
Died at Park House, Thornbury, Gloucestershire. 20th May 1911.
Elder brother of G.F., and W.G. Grace who both played for Gloucestershire and England, and Henry who played for Gloucestershire. His son N.V. played for the Royal Navy and his nephews A.H. and W.G.jun., for Gloucestershire and C.B. for London County. He played in 314 first-class matches, 253 of them for Gloucestershire and one of them, in 1880, a Test Match. He toured Australia in 1863/4. His debut was for the MCC in 1862 and he also played for Monmouthshire in 1860 and Carmarthenshire in 1864, He was Hon Secretary of Gloucestershire CCC 1873-1908.
He was a doctor by profession and Coroner for the lower division of Gloucestershire.
In the 1881 Census he was resident at Park House, Thornbury, aged 39, born at Mangotsfield. His wife Annie W. is aged 34, born at Demarara. Their eldest daughter, Annie E. aged 11 is labelled a dumb imbecile. There are six further daughters, Edith M. aged 10, Florie B. aged 8, Mina G. aged 7, Sarah M.A. aged 4, Alice R. aged 3, Sybil aged one month and two sons Edward S.H. aged 6 and Frincis H. aged 2. This is a family with regular habits! There are three domestic servants.
